When the train went off the rails in April 2019, it left behind a legacy that remains.
It’s a legacy we have to live with.
A legacy that’s not going to go away.
That’s why I’m working with other rail operators and politicians to get a better system that makes the railway viable and reliable, said Siddharth Mukherjee, CEO of the Railways’ National Highways.
It was not a perfect system, but the railway, in a way, had to go.
It had to become sustainable, and the first step was to make sure the infrastructure and services were there.
That means the railways must also be able to provide a seamless journey between places.
That’s where the rail system can benefit from better planning and investment, he said.
The railways have been struggling to deliver a seamless, affordable and reliable railway for more than a decade, said Mukherji, who was appointed Railway Minister in October 2020.
And even when they got rid, the infrastructure was not as good as the world’s best.
In the years that followed, the railways struggled to attract investment, and its infrastructure deteriorated.
With no more funding, the train has been left with a legacy, he added.
We have to ensure that the railway is as reliable as it can be and that it can get the trains to where they need to go, he told Business Insider in an interview.
The first step in the railways’ ambitious plan is to overhaul the entire network.
For years, it has been a case of rebuilding the train.
With the introduction of the new trains, it is the second phase of this, which will be completed by 2021.
The new trains are expected to cost up to ₹5,000 crore, while the old ones will cost ₼3,000-4,000 billion.
It will be a challenge to build trains for the new generation of trains.
But the railways have done a good job in this area.
There’s a clear understanding of what needs to be done and where, said Anant Bhattacharya, a professor of civil engineering at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The railway has also been working hard on a smart city, with plans to build a new train station for the capital city of Ahmedabad, which is estimated to cost ⅓ of a billion.
The government has been working on a “Smart City” plan, which would make it easier for residents to get around and get work done.
With these smart city projects, the government will work on infrastructure and public transport improvements to help people live more comfortably, said A.R. Gupta, Minister for Railways.
Railways also want to increase passenger capacity to 1 million people per day, which they have been working towards since the late 1990s, Mukherjee said.
This could be achieved with the help of smart technology, he noted.
And there is much more to do.
The Railways are working on projects such as upgrading the railways network to connect the Indian states with the rest of the country, said Bhatta.
These will include connecting highways to other regions.
They will also be working on building a seamless transport network.
But for now, the focus has to be on ensuring that the trains are safe, he continued.
